A few simple ground rules so Community Chat stays friendly:
1. Be kind. Disagree if you want to — but disagree about the idea, not the person. If you wouldn't say it to a neighbour at the front gate, don't post it here.
2. Family-friendly. Children and grandparents both read this. No swearing, no adult content, no graphic descriptions of bad things.
3. No political hot topics. National party politics, divisive election issues, and anything that's really a campaign in disguise belong on forums built for those debates. We have plenty to talk about as a Lincoln community without bringing in the shouting.
4. No personal attacks, no harassment, no doxxing. Naming a local business in a complaint is fine if it's honest and specific. Naming an individual to drag them is not.
5. No spam, no ads. If you run a local business and want to be in the directory, head to /directory/ — there is a place for you. Replying to threads with a sales pitch will get the post removed.
6. Links wait for review. Posts and replies that contain a URL are held until a moderator looks at them. Genuine recommendations clear quickly. Spam doesn't.
7. Reports are read. If a thread or reply crosses a line, hit the Report button — moderators look at every report.
If a post breaks the rules it gets removed. Repeat offences trigger our three-strike pipeline (the same one used across all of Lincoln.Life): a quiet nudge first, a reflection step second, a posting pause third. The full version is on the /guidelines page.
That's it. Be kind, keep it Lincoln, have a good chat.
