Cookies

What we set, what each cookie does, and how to change your mind.

Cookies we always set (essential)

These keep the site working. They are exempt from the consent requirement under UK PECR because the service would not function without them.

ll_access — sign-in (when you log in)

Holds a short-lived token proving you are signed in. Without it, every click would log you out. Expires after 24 hours.

ll_refresh — sign-in (when you log in)

Lets us silently extend your session without asking you to log in again every day. Expires after 30 days. Tied to your browser; signing out anywhere clears it.

session — CSRF and form-flow protection

A small Flask session cookie used to protect form submissions (sign-in, suggesting a business, posting comments) against cross-site request forgery. Cleared when you close the browser.

Cookies we only set if you accept (analytics)

These are off by default. They will only be set if you click Accept analytics in the consent banner. They help us understand which sections of the site people use, so we can improve them.

_ga — Google Analytics visitor ID

A randomly generated identifier that lets Google count returning visitors without knowing who you are. Expires after 13 months.

_ga_<ID> — Google Analytics session state

Tracks which session a pageview belongs to so the count of pages per visit is accurate. Expires after 13 months.

We have asked Google to anonymise IP addresses before processing, and we have not enabled the advertising features of Google Analytics — no remarketing, no ad personalisation, no signals shared with Google Ads.

Change your choice

You can revoke or grant analytics consent at any time:

Reset my cookie choice

This clears the choice we have stored for your browser and re-shows the consent banner the next time a Lincoln.Life page loads. The essential cookies above are not affected because the site cannot run without them.

Blocking cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser's settings. The instructions are different for every browser, but Google's Chrome help page, Firefox help page, Safari help page, and Edge help page all cover this. Blocking essential cookies will stop you signing in.
