The families of two teenagers tragically killed in a car crash near Grantham have expressed their profound grief and shared heartfelt tributes to their beloved sons. Harrison Carter, 18, and George Stephenson, 17, were passengers in a vehicle driven by Madeleine Lonsdale when the accident occurred on June 20, 2025. The car was reportedly travelling at speeds of 100mph before it crashed on Toll Bar Road at Marston. Following the incident, Lonsdale was sentenced to 14 months detention after pleading guilty to two counts of death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, both families have come forward to reflect on the lives of their sons, who had recently completed their A-Level exams at the King's School in Grantham. Harrison’s parents, Sarah and David, described their son as a devoted brother and a protector, highlighting his charm, honesty, and humility. They noted his resilience and generosity, stating that he was motivated by meaning rather than ego.
Harrison was not only a talented golfer, well-respected at local golf clubs, but also an active member of his school community. He participated in the Law Society and Debate Club, where he was known for his passionate analysis of complex issues. His academic achievements included excellent GCSE and A-Level results, and he had aspirations to study philosophy and ethics at Durham University, with plans to pursue a career in law.
The tribute from Harrison’s parents conveyed their immeasurable loss but also acknowledged the love that remains, stating, "Grief is the price we pay for love. Harry leaves a legacy of pure kindness - We could all benefit from being a little more like Harry."
George’s family, including his parents Vicki and Bruce, also shared their devastation over the loss of their youngest child. They expressed their enduring pain, stating, "We are grateful for the 17 wonderful years we had with him."
Both families extended their gratitude to the police, emergency services, and the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance for their efforts during such a tragic time. They also thanked the King's School in Grantham for their support, alongside their friends and family who have been a source of strength.
As the community mourns the loss of these two young lives, many are reflecting on the impact Harrison and George had on those around them, and how their legacies can inspire kindness and compassion moving forward.
