Boston Guildhall, one of Lincolnshire's most significant historic buildings, has been awarded over £400,000 for urgent repairs. This Grade I-listed site, built in the 14th century for the Guild of St Mary, is a remarkable medieval brick structure that stretches 50 metres in length. The substantial funding of £401,112 comes from the Museum Estate and Development Fund, marking a significant investment in the preservation of this iconic building. The money will be used to ensure the Guildhall remains safe, weatherproof, and accessible for future generations to enjoy.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy highlighted the importance of cultural organisations in the East Midlands, stating they are vital custodians of local identity. She noted that the Arts Everywhere Fund reflects the government's commitment to supporting cultural assets across the country, enhancing access and preservation for future generations.
This funding is part of a larger £5 million investment in the East Midlands, aimed at supporting ten cultural venues, museums, and libraries. The initiative is delivered by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through the Arts Everywhere Fund.
