A tragic incident on the A17 in Sleaford has left the community mourning the loss of a young boy. A 20-month-old toddler, Finley Baker, sustained serious injuries in a three-vehicle collision that occurred on March 19, 2025. Hristo Iliev, a 32-year-old man from Boston, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on April 23, 2026, facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The court proceedings were attended by magistrates Mr Shepherd JP, Mrs Jutsum JP, and Miss Scarth JP, where Iliev was assisted by a translator. Dressed in a black jacket and navy trousers, he listened as the details of the case were discussed.

According to Lincolnshire Police, the crash occurred around 4.45pm, and Finley was airlifted to the hospital, where he unfortunately passed away in the early hours of March 21. The driver of one of the other vehicles was also reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Iliev’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 21, 2026, at Lincoln Crown Court, where he will face a plea, trial, and preparation hearing. Until then, he remains on conditional bail, which includes regular check-ins at his local police station and restrictions on travel.
