A care home in Lincoln has received an 'unsafe' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as reported by Lincolnshire Live. Redcote House Residential Care, located on Redcote Drive, was found to have significant safety and leadership concerns during an inspection conducted in January. This rating is particularly concerning as it reflects the lowest grade overall, indicating that urgent improvements are necessary.
Despite these serious findings, the report highlighted that residents and their families generally expressed positive sentiments about the care provided. The home, operated by Bhandal Care Group, was rated 'good' for its caring approach, showcasing the dedication of the staff. However, the inspectors identified critical issues, particularly in areas such as recruitment, risk management, care plans, medication handling, and infection prevention.
Among the safety concerns noted was an incident where a wheelchair was not being used correctly, and a kitchen door was left open, posing risks to residents with dementia. The report emphasized that the provider had not ensured there were enough qualified and experienced staff on duty, which sometimes left the existing staff feeling rushed and unable to devote quality time to residents.
While some families expressed confidence in the care their loved ones were receiving, stating that staff were well-trained and attentive, the report did point out a lack of engagement during meal times, with residents often left unsupervised. One family member shared their reassurance about the care for their relative, who is at high risk of falls, noting that the necessary equipment was always available and staff were adequately trained.
The CQC's assessment indicated that the care home was still in breach of legal regulations concerning safe care and treatment, as well as the employment of qualified personnel. This ongoing situation raises questions about the effectiveness of the improvements that were supposed to be made since the last assessment.
The Bhandal Care Group has been contacted for further comment regarding these findings. As the community reflects on this situation, it’s essential to consider both the commendable aspects of the staff's dedication and the critical areas that need immediate attention to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents at Redcote House.
