Angus Energy is looking to expand its operations in Lincolnshire by seeking permission to store flammable liquids at its existing natural gas facility, known as the Saltfleetby Gas Field. The application has been submitted to Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) for hazardous substances consent, as reported by Lincolnshire Live.

The proposed storage would allow Angus Energy to handle flammable liquids used for separation, cooling, and potential storage before transporting them to the National Transmission Network. To ensure safety, the company has outlined several measures aimed at reducing the risk of a major accident.

A spokesperson for Angus Energy emphasized that the company already operates a major accident pipeline designed to transport dangerous fluids. This operation includes a comprehensive safety management system and environmental management practices. The spokesperson stated, "Our management system starts with a high commitment to major accident hazard prevention and management."

Routine maintenance and thorough risk assessments are part of the company’s strategy to prevent accidents. Competent operators manage the site, focusing on maintaining safety standards. Additionally, Angus Energy has contingency plans in place to address any incidents, which are regularly tested to ensure effectiveness.

The company has also adopted a collaborative approach, working with local authorities and planning to engage with residents to address any concerns. As of now, LCC has not raised any objections to the application but is still in the process of evaluating it.

Justine Robson, a senior development management officer at LCC, noted that the council has considered local and national planning policies. She stated that the proposed development is not expected to have an unacceptable impact on highway safety, nor will it increase the risk of surface water flooding.

The public consultation period for this application is open until May 8, after which LCC will assess all feedback and make a final decision.

The Saltfleetby Gas Field has been operational since August 2022, after being shut down in 2018. It features on-site processing facilities that ensure the natural gas meets the required pressure and specifications for distribution.

As Angus Energy moves forward with its plans, local residents may have questions or concerns about the safety measures and potential impacts on the community. What do you think about the proposed storage of flammable liquids at the Saltfleetby Gas Field?
