Residents of Grantham have been urged to take extra precautions with their vehicles following a series of break-ins reported across the town. According to Lincolnshire Police, incidents have been noted on several streets, including Queensway, Edward Street, Princess Drive, Hudson Way, and Tyndal Road since April 30. The police are emphasizing the importance of securing vehicles and keeping valuables out of sight to prevent theft.
PC Mark Barr from the Grantham Neighbourhood Policing Team addressed the community, encouraging drivers to double-check their vehicles. He stated, "We’re asking everyone to double check what is left behind in their cars and vans; please take a moment to check what can be seen and take anything valuable out or put it out of sight." He highlighted that items which might seem insignificant to one person can be enticing to a thief, particularly bags or jackets that may contain bank cards or mobile phones.
The police have made it clear that drivers should not only lock their vehicles when parked at home but also during short stops. They recommend closing all windows and sunroofs, using alarms if available, and removing any valuable items, tools, loose change, garage remotes, and spare keys from sight. If it is necessary to leave valuables in the vehicle, they advise locking them in the boot before arriving at a destination.
In addition to these precautions, the police suggest parking in well-lit, frequently used areas and utilizing garages or off-street parking whenever possible. Residents are also encouraged to consider installing security lighting or CCTV around their homes to enhance safety in driveways and parking areas.
The community is reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately. If anyone witnesses a crime in progress, they should call 999, while thefts can be reported by calling 101 or through the Lincolnshire Police website. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via Crimestoppers.
As Grantham residents take these warnings to heart, it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and discuss further safety measures. What steps have you taken to secure your vehicle, and do you have any tips to share with your neighbors?
