Stamford Climate Action Now recently highlighted the pressing implications of climate incidents for our region, as reported by LincsOnline - Stamford News. Richard Joy, writing on behalf of the organisation, noted that agriculture is already feeling the effects of climate change. The rising risk of flooding poses a growing threat not just to homes, but also to businesses and vital infrastructure in Stamford.

In recent years, the UK has witnessed extreme weather events that have led to homes being submerged, transport systems disrupted, and buildings damaged. While Stamford has largely been spared from major incidents, some residents and businesses have already faced challenges. The reality is that climate-related incidents are becoming increasingly likely, and Stamford is not immune to these threats.

In response, local authorities, including Lincolnshire County Council and South Kesteven District Council, are proactively working alongside key government agencies like the Environment Agency to develop strategies to mitigate these risks. A significant part of their approach involves engaging with both businesses and residents to raise awareness about potential hazards, helping the community to prepare and respond effectively when incidents occur.

As part of this initiative, Lincolnshire County Council is collaborating with local communities to form teams capable of responding to emergencies. A new network of volunteers, known as Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), is being established across Lincolnshire to enhance local resilience.

For those interested in learning more about how our region is preparing to tackle the challenges posed by climate change, a Community Resilience Event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, at Stamford Town Hall. The event will run from 2pm to 7pm and will feature representatives from key agencies involved in climate action. Attendees can expect discussions and presentations on various environmental issues, alongside information on the local CERT initiatives.

This event provides a valuable opportunity for residents to engage with the ongoing efforts to bolster community resilience against climate change. Everyone is encouraged to come along and join the conversation at the town hall.

For further details, residents can reach out to Bret Allibone, chair of the climate and environment committee, via email at cllrballibone@stamfordtowncouncil.gov.uk.

As the community prepares for the future, it’s essential to reflect on how each of us can contribute to making Stamford a more resilient place. What steps do you think our community should take to better prepare for climate-related challenges?
